To The Bone

When it comes to Netflix originals, they know how to tell a story without sugar coating it. Between 13 Reasons Why, The Fundamentals of caring, and now To The Bone, Netflix has my applause for quality stories that go untold.
Lily Collins really played a strong role for this film. She captured what it's like for a young female in her prime going through eating disorders. Anorexia is a topic up there with suicide because people don't talk about it. It's acknowledged, but it ends up being shrugged off or ignored the sake of those that aren't mentally ill.
I'm an not alone when I say I can feel self conscious about my size and weight. Due to my high metabolism, I burn off food faster than the average girl my age, resulting in my thin body type. I'm aware that I am below average in weight for my age group, but the only way to put on the weight is through exorcising. I've never been a fan of physical sport because I despise sweating and feeling sore. I find that Ellen, Lily Collins' portrayed character, is quite relatable even if I'm not to the extreme of full on anorexia. I love to eat, and when I'm hungry I eat. But, don't ask me to wear a bikini after eating. I relate to her in terms of feeling like a girl my age should be thin and flawless, and the only way to do that is to watch what I eat.
Hollywood has not changed since the day it was created. Young girls in movies, Tv shows, and commercials are still portrayed as fit and thin beings. Females like this are pure eye candy. But, not every girl is blessed with both a body and looks. This is where I applaud Netflix for selecting their actors and storylines to match seamlessly. This movie portrays a serious topic, and super model girls won't do it justice, even though models themselves deal with eating disorders themselves.
I hope this movie will reach out to the struggling with disorders like this. No one person is the same, but it will only get better if we learn to understand each other and come to a compromise. I highly hope Netflix does another movie with a serious topic to spread more awareness about untold truths and stories.
