Zealot teenagers, an exorcism, and ever changing morality is what this book is all about. Danielle Vega captures contemporary horror at its finest. This book is a real page turner and will keep you anxious throughout.
The story in the book follows an Army brat, Sophia Flores, moving to a new home and new school, which means new friends. But, Sophia's new friends having a disturbing agenda.
When I read books, the story has to take me on an emotional rollercoaster, otherwise I will lose interest quick. This story kept me hooked until the end. I am a huge fan of books written in first person, active, present tense voice. Writers that use this style really make the readers feel like they are right there in the story. While reading the Merciless, I could visually see everything that was going on, smell the environment, feel the textures, and hear what can not be heard. Although the Merciless is a part of a series, it can stand alone. The ending is ambiguous, yet intoxicating because the reader will want to know what happens next, and if the sequel will outshine the original. I highly recommend this book for those that enjoy contemporary horror, thriller, and suspense. The story may start off slow, but that's just the development of characters before we seem them in their finest hours.
