Even though Beauty and the Beast was not my favorite tale, I did love the fact that Belle had a passion for books and learning. I was mostly interested in reading this book because I loved reading about alternative perspectives. There are always three sides to a tale: the protagonist’s, the antagonist’s, and the narrator’s. This book focused on the beast’s perspective and his background.
Villains don’t just start off evil. There is always a reason. Like most wealthy bachelors, there’s always a burden that comes with money and titles. The Prince, a.k.a. the beast, was promised to another before Belle and was best friends with Gaston. However, due to sinister magic, the Beast’s personality and life warped into chaos that lead to one true love Belle.
Although this book series was supposed to be about infamous Disney villains, there were reoccurring characters from the first book that are also witches. However, these witches are all sisters. There were technically four sisters, but only three were mentioned in the first book. The age of the sisters was not clear, but since the fourth sister is referred to as the youngest, the first three could possibly be triplets. They youngest sister was also betrothed to the beast before Belle. These sisters supposedly influenced the outcome of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with their magic spells. They were the reason Gaston plotted to kill his best friend.
The first book in this series will remain my favorite. Unless there comes a villain story that outshines the first. The Beast Within had a unique perspective worth reading about.
