Table 19

Awkward romantic drama... or comedy? This movie is both. Table 19 is about Eloise attending her old friend's wedding, and sitting at the reception table that no one cares about. At the wedding is Eloise's ex-boyfriend who is the best man now dating the new maid of honor. At Eloise's outcast table is Bina and Jerry Kepp, diner owners that know someone at the wedding who is in the diner industry, Rezno Eckberg, the high schooler looking for love or a one night stand, whatever the other person is up for, Walter Thimple, an ex-con man enjoying his parole freedom and mending old bonds, and Jo Flanagen, the bride's childhood nanny. Each misfit at table 19 has their issues, but they all have a place to unwind and reveal their darkest secrets.

This movie has a hard time choosing what tone it wants to convey the story through. The beginning of the movie uses awkward comedy to keep the audience interested, but later on the comedy becomes sparse. Everything shown in the trailers happens in the beginning of the film, so the other half of the film is definitely unexpected. This movie is marketed as a romantic comedy, but after analyzing, this movie is more of a drama with comedy sprinkled in. The movie did recover by the end, adding some heartfelt scenes and ending.

No explicit spoilers will be revealed; However, prepare your self for unexpected twists and turns. Do not take this movie for granted. It may just be marketed as a romantic comedy, but this movie has its deep and dark moments. It provides a realism of romances today, or at least what to expect with unexpected romances or heart breaks.

Rotten tomatoes gives this movie a 19% or 4.5 out of 10, but this movie deserves a 48% and 5.8 out of 10. The characters aren't clichés, and the twists are enough to earn a higher score. However, the dialogue and plot developments are lacking. With a little bit more planning, structuring, and revising, this movie could be the next Like Crazy film.
