Soulless Vol. 3

*WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD*

Although this book was good, it didn’t have me shook by the end like the previous book. I’m still a little unsure about Genevieve’s constant flirting with Alexia and this time initiating consensual kissing. It just creates an unnecessary love triangle for Alexia, Genevieve, and Connall. However, this could be a way to get back at Connall for disbelieving her when she swore she had no other lovers besides him to get her pregnant. It’s not a hundred percent clear as to why Alexia allowed Genevieve to kiss her again besides the fact that they’re both comfortable with each other.

This book didn’t have as much mystery as the last one besides trying to figure out where Akeldama went after the news – or rather gossip – leaked about him being a possible father to Alexia’s child, who is trying to kill Alexia, and will Connall get some sense into him about being the father of his only future child.

Alexia flees London to Italy for her safety and possibility on discovering what her child may turn out to be once its born. The child could either turn out like its father being born a werewolf, be preternatural like its mother, or just a normal child with no supernatural ability. I’m definitely curious as to what the child could turn out to be.

A scene from the book that really resonated with me was when Biffy, one of Akeldama’s followers/servants, is found imprisoned at the bottom of the ocean. He was rescued by Connall and Lyall, Conall’s beta in the pack, but soon after, Biffy was shot by an enemy. With seconds to live, Lyall instructs Conall to save Biffy’s life as Akeldama will not want his most cherished follower to die. So, Conall bites Biffy and changes him into a werewolf.

After that scene there was this realization that Biffy might not be allowed to continue following Akeldama and be a part of his hive as he no longer has the option to become a vampire. Yet, he’s not officially a part of the werewolf pack, so he essentially has lost his place in the world.

I couldn’t help but feel so bad for Biffy because he just wanted to please his master in any way possible not just for his own selfish reasons. However, Akeldama doesn’t abandon Biffy. He’s just glad Biffy is okay. The fact that Biffy is now a werewolf is just a formality to Akeldama, so this made me love Akeldama so much more.

Overall this book is tied with the second book because it didn’t have the same cliff hanger ending, but it did have a few shocking moments that made it that much more intriguing. For my first adult fantasy series it’s a great gateway. The sex scenes were only heavy in the first book. It’s like Game of Thrones, as the series goes on, the sex becomes less important to include.
