I really enjoyed this book. It had that southern flare with the typical teen fantasy elements. Harper Price's life changes on the night of homecoming. In an instant she goes from an over-achieving high schooler to a Paladin warrior. The new power is too much to bare, especially when it is supposed to be used to protect her sworn enemy since kindergarten, David Stark.
As the story progresses, Harper's attitude towards situations changes. I enjoyed her reaction to just accept her ability, even though it took some time to get used to it. In a way this story reminded me of MTV's Teen Wolf Tv series. Where the main character is given an ability, not by choice, and is plunged into a new world while keeping a low profile in the real world.
I really enjoyed the southern aspect to it, since I myself am a southern belle from Alabama, it's part of the reason for reading this book.
My only issue is who Harper ends up with. I won't say who, but I'm not a fan of the choice. Other than that it was a refreshing new story to read. I will most definitely read book two to see how issues from the ending of book 1 work out in the sequel.
