I’m a major fan of the show Once Upon a Time. With its cheesy storyline, yet clever twists on our favorite classic tales. There’s bound to be at least one character someone can relate with. My all-time favorite character is Killian “Hook” Jones, but before him it was Ruby “Red” Lucas.
Ruby and her Grandmother were never on the same page about anything and she was portrayed as a rebel girl which is why I liked her so much.
When this book came out during the early airing of the show, I wanted to read this book so bad. But, I could never justify the price for such a tiny book. Years later, I threw that excuse out the window and bought it.
I had to remind myself that this was early Ruby and not the most recent Ruby from the show. It’s also a story from before Storybrooke ever existed. So, it was neat to see Ruby in her prime as well as Peter.
As much as I enjoyed reading this book, I had a few concerns. First off, there were so many different goals to complete by the end of the book that only one got complete. Red (she’s referred to as Red in the book due to her cape) had two other goals that never got completed or changed by the end of the book. By the end of the story, Red is given a mission to help save Granny’s physical pain from a previous spell, but she never completes that goal. It’s like she completely forgot about it.
However, it’s been a long time since I’ve the beginning seasons of the show, so the goal might have been perused in the show. I would have to watch all over to see.
Other than that, I really loved Red’s character in this book. She was honest, kind-hearted, and everything she’s like in the show.
There are other books in this Once Upon a Time side story books, but none have captured my attention like this book.
