In the True Chronicles there’s Itachi’s Story: Daylight, Itachi’s Story: Midnight, and Sasuke’s Story: Sunrise. I have a feeling Sasuke’s story will be told in two parts just to keep with the rhythm of Itachi’s two-part stories. Sasuke’s sequel might even be called sunset to go along with the cycle of the sun theme title.
Itachi’s Story: Daylight follows him from a young age of four all the way to the age of eleven on his first mission with the Anbu Black Ops. Itachi is a character that looms over this world as a rogue ninja from the hidden leaf, an assassin to the entire Uchiha clan, a traitor for joining up with the Akatsuki, and a much hated brother by Sasuke. He’s an infamous ninja that’s completely misunderstood by his own people, family, and brother. His true goal is to create world peace even if it means destroying the ninja’s, but Itachi does not believe in killing anyone. Which is part of the reason Danzo, the head and creator of the Anbu Black Ops, assigns Itachi on an assignation mission for Itachi’s first task.
I love that we get to see the full story of Itachi’s past. We get to meet all the characters he has a history with and learn more about his best friend Shisui. It’s hard to believe that Itachi is truly as evil and menacing as Sasuke and the whole world believes him to be especially when he loved the world with his full heart.
It’s also great to see why Itachi had such a soft spot for his younger brother and why he spared Sasuke’s life when annihilating his own people. Itachi did commit a lot of unforgivable crimes, but he’s not the kind of person to kill without cause for a greater purpose.
There's a scene in Itachi's life that has so much mystery which is when he annihilates his own clan. We see flashbacks to that night through Sasuke's perspective in the show, but not through Itachi's perspective. The Uchiha's are the clan that possess the sharigan which is a selective family trait in the eyes that glows red with tomoe's circling within. It only activates in those who have strong emotions whether positive through protection and love or negative through stress or loss. I believe Itachi is the most deeply loving person in his clan which is how he was able to use the Mangekyo Sharigan which is the ultimate visual jutsu an Uchiha can possess. Itachi is wise beyond his years and sees the world for what it could be rather than what it is. He has issues believing and accepting his clan's way and viewpoint of life. He even begins to question his agreement with his father's ideology about the way the village should be run.
Itachi's part one story is barely shown in the manga or anime, so it is enlightening to witness his childhood and how he slowly became that person the ninja world believes him to be. I'm definitely curious to see how part two ends and why Itachi does what we believe to be a sinister crime.
