Before I Fall

Where do I even begin... After that ending, I have to recollect my emotions and shove them back into my brain because this book is such an emotional rollercoaster. This book is the love child of the Pretty Little Liars series and Thirteen Reasons Why.

So much happens in this book that if you aren't paying attention you'll miss some important details for later. Samantha Kingston is secretly what every teenage girl feels at some point in their life--reckless, feisty, sassy, clever, funny, loving, and confident. She is a character I could definitely relate to and feel for. When Sam became angry with the time loop I actually felt her anger and frustration.

Lauren Oliver is a master at setting the scene and mood. With everyday Sam is trapped in a continual time loop, we feel what she's feeling and want to what she'll do next. Oliver is clever about what events need to happen for the progression of the story to be thrilling and engaging. On the special edition cover of this book, Jay Asher (author of Thirteen Reasons Why), said once you read this book you'll have no choice but to tear through it. Like most skeptics, I didn't believe this because it's hard finding a good page turner. But after the first pages I was definitely hooked.

This kind of story deserves to be shown on the big screen, but it taps into the very heart of the human soul that questions life and death. Teenage years are the not the easiest. Looking back, I would rather take hardships of adulthood than relive high school. This book reminds us how fragile life is and how important is it to think before you act. Everyday we impact some else's life whether significantly or minuscule. What we do or say has a way of coming back to us. Karma is real no matter what religion you are. So, remember to love your family, friends, neighbors, and even the strangers especially the ones that sneak you a 30% coupon at check out.
