If you are a fan of Aladdin and girl power, you will absolutely love this book. Princess Jasmine is one of my favorite princesses because she is strong, brave, compassionate, and adventurous. She is not your typical princess that falls in love with a prince and lives happily ever after especially not in this story. Liz Braswell takes the Disney's Aladdin story and gives it a whole new twist. Aladdin is given a backstory and Jasmine is given more credit as a strong female protagonist. Although this book is a Disney publication, it takes some dark turns throughout the story. Some scenes will leave you queasy or questioning if Disney approved of this books publication. It's obvious that Braswell is a Disney fan because she pays attention to important moments from the original Disney's Aladdin and incorporated those moments into the new twisted tale. With each twisted tale she writes, she asks one question per book. For this book, she asks, "What if Jafar was the first to summon the Genie?" I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to those that love classic Disney tales. I can't wait to read Braswell's next twisted tales, such as Once Upon a Dream and As Old as Time.
